  FAKE NEWS RESEARCH

This creative research project by 5 students in the US uses AR to change the writing on any trump sign you see to reveal a hidden message about his morals and values e.g. praised low black voter turnout, thinks climate change is a Chinese hoax





- Coined the term ‘fake news’ . He used this term when referring to news he didn’t like or agree with, rather than it having anything to do with the actual facts of the news. This can be seen as an act of propaganda
- This has led to a serious distrust in the mainstream media, particularly among the right wing. Trump referred to the mainstream media as the ‘enemy of the people’
- Our fact checker symbol would give sources credibility and give the people the chance to see what lies they are being fed

- Trump’s use of the term ‘fake news’ is largely inaccurate and often used describe articles he doesn’t agree with. 
However, fake news is still a huge and very real problem in this day and age, especially on social media. e.g. In 2019, the top 100 fake news stories on Facebook were viewed over 150 million times — "enough to reach every registered voter at least once," according to Avaaz, the non-profit that did the study.

DETAILS: A West Virginia mail carrier pleaded guilty to attempted election fraud and "injury to the mail" after admitting he had altered the mail-in request forms for absentee ballots from eight voters in April 2020, according to a statement by the Department of Justice. 

= We could use our logo siren to visually communicate this article, so the electorate can make their decisions based on facts. The logo could go alongside videos of the debate, or an article that discusses the debate.

EV - Facebook fake news check - stopped putting a red flag next to fake news because it made more people want to click it. Could it encourage more people to read these articles? Is more people reading the articles an issue if they know it is fake news?

= We should avoid obvious tempting triggers such as exclamation points?
= Or perhaps the the logo meter colour changer won't have this impact as it's always there rather than how fb did it 







= first two are sets of symbols that could be used on articles or tweets or during speeches to like quickly accredit what he's saying,
= the 3rd one is a bit wider and could be used for any politician as a visual cue of weighing up how much they're lying so if they were they'd be heavier than the shit because they're so full of shit
= aesthetic like newspapers illustrations to reflect the political tone, very flat digital style

Potential website idea would be having this scale on the screen, with illustrations of different political leaders on the side that the viewer could drag onto the scale to see what level of 'full of shit' they are

Website would then give most recent articles on that individual

Identity EVALUATION

Alike to GAIA EXRTH, it was disappointing not being able to complete the brief within the timescale set out. I recognise that I like working a lot on passion projects and pushing them further and further, to the point that perhaps the goals I set are unrealistic or I spend too long on one level/area of the project. In this case this was a research brief and I set out to spend a lot of time doing research and testing ideas. I found this a more difficult brief to do within the covid landscape and felt less inspired, as I wanted to go out into the world and look at things, ask people, visit places and so on. This meant this project took a back seat and by the end of the year revisiting it so late on meant there was no time to fulfil the visions I had for the project. It's exciting however to have so many projects I'm interested in to be continuing after uni as it means I can keep the momentum up of designing and producing more ideas and more work.
