Brief External Collab Initial Research

EXTERNAL COLLAB 1

- Call with Lina on possible collab projects

- Both found an interest in Y2K retro futurism aesthetic

- Could explore various possible avenues for this brief, within printed and digital publications, posters and other digital online outputs

- Her role: Styling of models, photography

- My role: Creation of backgrounds (3D or collage), layout of visuals with photography

- Both of us would work together on idea generating of general images and visual themes, and on the output of the brief

- This brief has a loose context, in that the output nor the specific focus is known yet. This will be determined later on.

Initial Image Collecting for Research

Existing Examples of Publications on Y2K retro futurism

"What’s Cyber? Fashion Book: 2 Cyber Style" – Kerouac Vol. 5 (1998)

Cyberdog advertisement in Kerouac (Kera) magazine - Issue 47 - Aug. 2002

Tunica Magazine - Extended Fantasy - Issue 07 - 2019

TUNICA MAGAZINE

aim to break down the traditional structure of a magazine, the latest issue of Tunica is replete with experimental and interchangeable design. Ringing good riddance to the grid system, Tunica, the New York-based studio behind the publication, instead makes an “artwork of each spread, so the whole magazine becomes an art object in itself.”

= words used in collab with imagery as a visual aspect rather than a legible element to the work

= Interesting to see the ways in which the backgrounds for this brief don't have to be 3D created, but instead could form around more abstract representations of spaces or simple gradients

= It can be more decorative coloured visuals rather than obvious spaces and environments
