DESIGN Experimentation + Initial Idea 2
Initial experimentation leads towards playing around with layering in digital illustrations, hand rendered illustrations, type and photography
A few of these work eg. interesting checker with face stars (simple texture and digital layering), the pill face with text and the repeated hand made phone illustration on a noise texture
Keeping the simplicity within the different pieces ie. only a few forms used within each piece is a better direction
These are successful in pointing out which of these forms work best together
= what are the messages within these pieces?
= what do i want to communicate?
= what is the style and ideas behind the clothing?
= it's evident that I want to pursue a direction that utilises paint and ink illustrations, but what is it that should be painted? Once working this out it will be easier to produce more of these and play around with them more
= it's important that it feels authentic to me and isn't something that has been done before
= I recognise that the fine art direction I am drawn towards feels similar to Grayson Perry, would spending more time researching artists similar to these be helpful to developing my style or would it encourage me to copy it subconsciously?
= Practically it would probably help to see how he creates his work and if there is a process behind it that I can use to help me with my process
themes
- sex
- people
- feelings
- what is fashion??
- making work authentic to me means going in one direction
- so what are my initial ideas if these are not aesthetics?
- is it all design development?
qs to ask tutors
- following illustrations on paper perhaps the next step is painting straight onto clothing
- need to buy jeans and tops from charity shops to paint onto to customise
