Logo Initial Ideas + Patch Scanning

= Testing of painting with a digital logo idea to reflect the process of the illustrations creation
= using both techniques reflects the two different aesthetics seen through research of logo designs of colourful hand rendered (more obvious gender inclusive) and the more monochrome digital
= The bleeding of the pen with the water when attempting to watercolour the letterforms created an interesting melding of letterforms which should be attempted again to see if for an overall logo it may produce an effective logo
= General curvature of letterforms worked well in presenting this idea of freedom and reflects the connotations of the name

= The graffiti aesthetic works well as it instantly presents this notion of rebellion and breaking barriers, but it doesn't necessarily reflect this notion of gender inclusivity (not that this is essential in presenting for this brand)

= Alongside the logo could be a visual logo, simply of a monochrome silhouette of one of the illustrations as suggested in peer feedback
= This would communicate the aesthetic of the overall brand with the illustrations effectively and is simple and different (visual more memorable)

= It's important to think about whether a curvature, wavey playful direction is more appropriate, or whether it should be a more sharp, rebellious aesthetic
= The latter works better with the art style of the illustrations and takes on the ethos that these illustrations have been made with

= When approaching it using the exact materials would make sense for texture and dimension
> acrylic paint
> outlining

= Exploration of using a range of colours similar to illustrations didn't not work as effectively as hoped as the letterforms became muddled rather than colourful, bold and more 3D
= This could be down to the fact that the black outlining for the 3D effect mixed with the dark blue colour and made it less distinct
= This could be fixed by using less blue, but this idea was tested further on a larger scale with just pink acrylic which worked better

= Acronym was an interesting idea but with the type being developed the letterforms were not clear
= Having this ambiguity around the letters and logo may not be a bad thing however, considering the overall topic of not wanting to confine to categories, not identifying as specific stereotypical genders (eg. male and female)
= It also works well as a visual logo (word mark) and looks like an 'M' in tribute to me as the designer

= Other connotations of the words 'on the loose' were looked at eg. prisoners or dog escaping, therefore the image of handcuffs or a cage
= These felt too obvious and boring however

= Consistent with process of illustrations
= Both sharp and soft playful letterforms to mix both ideas
= This can be scanned for greater paint texture and dimension
= This can then be further digitally manipulated to be layered and more graffiti-esque
