Cover Development

493.36 mm x 348.88 mm

spine width 2.4 mm

> Decision with Rhianna to use the golden photo and to have a commercial common magazine direction with simple heading and the image below with minimal details

> Image doesn't lend itself well to having the name at the top of cover

> Playing around with typefaces and it will need to be simple for it to be legible which is the priority

> Lends better to have name aligned to the left where there is space from the main focus of the photo
> But our intention of having the back of his head stretched to make the cover a continuous wrap around means this space of brown tones won't be the same for the text
> Is this aesthetic the correct one for the publication cover? Does it reflect the content design style? Feels almost not futuristic enough, and perhaps the gold tones suggest an aesthetic inside that is predominantly gold?
> Ask Rhianna if I can mess around with the image to look more holographic

> Shifting the back of his head so the lights continue onto the back cover as a way of having a more abstract back cover and face focus front cover
> Best not to have the stretch fully aligned to the face, distortion looks better?
> Brown background space between edge of image and start of ear should be considered to allow space for text or detail on back cover

> Gradient mapping with silver tones works well in creating this holographic, metallic tone to the face
> Works to present this idea of someone morphing into something different, or this image of something moving, transcending, almost like images of time travel you see in movies
> Added textiles image over laid and placed in a way that works with the image of the person, with highlights over the ear and curves into the face ie. cheekbone
> Cutting out the face on the front cover creates this negative depth between the texture background and face foreground, making it more prominent and impactful
> Keeping it on the back cover part of the image creates distinction between the front and back cover
> Purple deep tones more appropriate as colour choice for cover in reflection of colours within the publication
> Metallic text for name title brings out the silvers of the photo but means it is difficult to see
> Creating a bar to make the name more legible however takes away from the image being continuous

> Could approach it like comics and Anime design where the bar is a prominent part of the design, the details are important and work together to make the bar feel less like a block on the image and more like a visual itself

> Metallic 3D badges for decoration and to elevate the silver tones
> PN badge could be improved, type used feels too rounded and soft
> Change this badge to another advertising promoting language to emphasise the catalogue direction
> Add names of me and Rhianna for credit on back cover

> Rhianna Feedback: Make the name easier to read
> Adding outer glow makes it more prominent on the darker metallic bar, and makes it feel even more futuristic
> Brings out the lighter silvers in the image and elevates the metallic glowing aesthetic of overall design

> All commercial magazines have codes on the back to buy them, so more futuristic alternative is a metallic QR code
> Metallic badges text is not as legible as it could be but like most of the text inside the publication, they act more as decoration and texture to the designs and as half readable pieces of text they are more alluding to the topic and tone of the catalogue and therefore are more visual, appropriate to the function of a photography showcasing publication
