DELIVERABLES DEVELOPMENTS + REFINING

 SPEAKERS SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS

> With no assets given with the brief to make the posts with, despite specification of posts introducing the speakers, finding images of each person was difficult especially as some people didn't have an obvious social media

> Despite this the photos found of most of them are great and work together with the colour palette of this visual direction

> Unlike the Poster or flyer these posts can be mostly visual as all the information about the speaker can go in the post description
> With this approach to mind lots of the distorted type can be used and interplay with the name of the speakers
> PLAY text in the poster is used to make shapes in the negative space and act as a geometric frame from which a playful visual is created
> With this I can to frame each speaker using the 'PLAY' text and its negative space

> Making the post continuous is another interesting way of bringing together each speaker into one post and one event, but with the need to interchange between the three colours the collage pieces and type act as the continuous element
> Whilst compiling third post of Marylou Faure the simplicity of it at the start worked so well

> Correspondence with group about the third post and whether to simplify the direction more for the overall visual style was that we should
> Didn't want to lose any of the details in the visuals (collage, crayon etc.) so instead removing some of the type 'PLAY' creates more negative space for each element to breathe,

> Group discussed whether to have large crayon or small as Millie had tested out small on her development of the posters
> Asserted that small crayon acts more as a detail than an addition to the texture and therefore could make the visuals more complicated, opposite to what the brief asserts

> Would be interesting to interact more with the type, but with the use of type and dimension on the photos there is already a lot going on

> What's good about this layout with the type and framing the images of each speaker is that it can be easily animated
> Type can move slightly between distortions and draw attention towards the picture in the overall design
> This movement will also play with the notion of perception, a theme in all the films

> Additional idea is that this framing can be used to present additional visuals such as clips from the films that are being shown, either in the negative space framed area or as a background

EVENT SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS

> Using elements from the original poster just like the additional poster designs to create consistency between all different platforms
> More of a crayon prominence in these posts as there is less large type
> Additional PLAY type ensures that it is obvious what the theme of the event is
> This also acts as an additional edge to place information against, as all text in the visual direction is within a geometric format interacting with each other
> Partizan Brewing distorted most likely will not be appropriate for the sponsor, as it makes their name less legible
> No logo has been given in the brief assets to use, but brief asserts the logo should be used??

> Unnecessary repetition of the CURATE.TV logo
> Less text the better for a post which should be simple and have lots of space for the different elements to breath, text, crayon textures, colours etc.
> should there be so many colours going on?
> The black is inconsistent, but unsure as to whether the brief asserts the need for the logo to be seen in the original given black
> Have to assume that as it's in black it can be used in the chosen colour palette of different campaign and event designs
> Remove the cut off 'Partizan Brewing' at the top

> Found logo
> Additional PLAY placed around logo to make their sponsorship the focus of the design

SOCIAL MEDIA EVALUATION + DEVELOPMENTS

> The visual style and direction of all the posts are cohesive with each other, being vivid, textured, bold and playful
> There is no notion of what the actual event is from just the visual language
> How can I reflect the event through the visual language?
> As the event is about film a sense of motion within the type or imagery could work
> The films themselves showing interesting playful ideas that make you question perception and what it is you're looking at could also be reflected in a distortion of some kind
> Motion in the type = Blurring the lines

> Works really well in creating additional texture, a sense of movement and creating dimensions and layering between the photos and the type
> Encourages a focus on the photo and image rather than the repeated text
> Should take off the effects on the speakers' names however as it affects legibility and reduces hierarchy of their name when it should be of equal focus as the photo
> Not having a blurry name will also mean if their name is smaller than any of the PLAY text, it will be given greater hierarchy in the type of the design

POSTER REFINEMENTS

> There are inconsistencies in the posters as an overall unit and in their level of cohesiveness
> Pieces of collage with white in stand out too much, when they should be used as a textural element rather than a detail element
> The use of close cropping to informational points from the original poster for additional posters works well but lacks refinement, with additional needed information
> eg. If there is one poster with the time but no other information or recognition of the event it does not communicate successfully
> Elements from the crop of the original text that are cut off in additional detail posters need to be removed or moved

> Design system needs to be made with these
> Interchange between three colours needed between the detail additional posters, yellow text or background needed

> Use of motion blur and noise in PLAY text in social media posts should be present in posters for consistency and as it is a strong part of the visual language and reference to it being a film event and that the films being shown are about perception and playfulness

> As there are three colours to use, I felt there was a lack of prominence in the yellow
> However making this the background colour created a very different tone to the rest of the posters with pink or blue fill backgrounds
> The second alternative to ensure more yellow overall was the use of yellow on the text, which was successful but still perhaps felt slightly different to the rest of the posters
> With more posters and variations and uses of the colours the yellow would not feel so out of place in this one poster as it would be shown more

> These developments involve creating a system in which it make the designs more cohesive, simple and informational
> Additional text and information not present from the main body of text crops is placed vertically along either the left or right side of the poster, wherever the main body of text is least prominent
> This main body of text may be moved more towards one side to make space for these extra pieces of text
> This information includes the date, time, location and the CURATE.TV logo
> The paragraph of text explaining the event is always placed at the bottom of the poster, against an edge of the poster or against another piece of text
> CURATE.TV as a logo if not within the main body of text used in the poster is always placed in a corner, whilst other additional information is placed secondary to the corner

> Collage and crayon lines are used as textural elements and not as detail, and should not be a focus of the design but an elevation of the design

> Additional 'PLAY' on its own is placed somewhere on the poster and distorted with Motion blur and noise
> This effect is also done to the rest of the text but not if it is informational for legibility reasons

FLYER DEVELOPMENT

> Initial Developments by Millie
> Utilises the playful distorted type from the poster and the collage and crayon texture
> Partizan logo is not clear in black and needs colour changing
> General direction of flyer is alongside visual direction but needs refining
> Informational text bottom left is too big for a flyer size and should be smaller
> PLAY distorted text centralised is inconsistent with how it is used in other outputs
> The crayon texture has too much space and becomes a focus rather than a texture in the background

> Animated experiment using clips from the film event
> Nature of the background with the use of collage means that to replace it with film footage in the same saturation of blues it doesn't look too different and creates a sense of movement and reference to the event

> Moved the PLAY text to the corner to make it feel more continuous rather than singular in the centre
> Added additional PLAY below for further sense of changing dimensions and using yellow to add more of that third colour in
> Informational text placed around PLAY to create sense of different perspectives
> 7PM in different type to the rest of the info doesn't work too well, was trying to recreate the time presentation on the main poster layout but not transferable to here

> Lots of space filled with another PLAY which is the most legible and has the most focus
> Makes the event theme clear to viewer and creates sense of continuity between the text at the top and text below
> Negative space shapes yet again created using these PLAY distortions
> 7pm made into same type and looks more consistent
> Crayon in different colours brings together all the elements and creates more texture
> Motion blur and noise added to PLAY type as consistent with the social media and posters

ADDITIONAL DELIVERABLES IDEAS

What could play on our theme?
> At some film events they give out branded notepads, what if the inside pages were coloured in the colours yellow, pink and blue and crayons were given alongside this to encourage the audience to play around and draw physically
> Crayons as there is crayon texture used in the visual style
> Although this is quite a restrictive play with crayon and paper, different suggestions of how to be playful and activities could be listed in this notepad eg. stab holes into this paper with your crayon, lift it up and look through it, draw what you see through the hole...
> Disposable cameras packaging?
> VHS case with merchandise inside, eg. stickers or poster

> Ideas for if the brief were to be longer and more developed, for now stickers work well as a simple visual stamp of the event that can be placed around and given to people who attend for further publicity

STICKERS DEVELOPMENT

> Millie's stickers
> Partizan logo should have its colour changed to yellow so it is more prominent on the sticker or the background of the sticker colour should be changed
> Relevance of the smiley face?
> Look at creating stickers that utilise the key visuals within the branding, eg. the shapes seen in the negative space of the type in the poster
> This forms reflect a central geometric aesthetic and a sense of perspective and distortion that links with the themes in the films being shown at the event

> Background of smiley faces uses colours that are not relevant to colour scheme chosen
> Nice textures and decoration but it's best if they are shown simply on a plain background as they themselves are decorative and detailed and the focus should not be taken away from the product itself

> The corner sticker from the poster text follows what I suggested but needs refining as the CURATE.TV is cut off and all elements should be moved slightly up to allow space for so many elements
> Simplicity of other stickers of PLAY and the event logo using our colour scheme work really well
> Further creations could be made if there was time
