Play Campaign Initial Ideas

Digital Collage Experimentation

> Wanted to play around with distorting perceptions and faces as these are main themes within the videos being shown for the event
> With physical limitations of no printer and no scanner I had to this digitally, which is frustrating as more interesting and quick results could be made if I could do it physically
> Interesting effect of layers, multiplying layers and adding a solid fill background
> When adding a background colour the additional faces above are seen more easily
> Could this be an interesting way of showing perceptions and distortion similar to Peter Campus, Three Transitions?
> The client has shown that he uses and prefers animated posters and so this would work well with this element

> The use of smiling people layered above one another also references the people shown in the video the morning after the night before
> It feels positive and interesting, which is important in a time like this

> Text follows distortions and perception alterations alongside the visuals, although the layers of the text with the images makes it difficult to ensure the perspective idea of the layered two face photos could be shown
> Negative space from the text creates shapes that is reflective of the shapes and geometric theme within the Bauhaus ballet, Grace Jones and O Superman

> Was creating an aesthetic that was along similar lines as previous campaign which utilised borders around visuals, but revisited the brief and saw that is only has to use the typefaces and a contrasting direction
> Development of this idea follows through with a more impactful full bleed visual and changes to type for distinction and balance

> Peer feedback suggested playing around with duotone colours and bitmapping, rather than keeping the original photograph's colours
> This led to some interesting experiments with the type and visuals interacting, but ultimately getting it to a point where the colour choices, texture and ability to show the switch between one photograph and the other was difficult

> As individual images these don't work as well as posters but the animated version reflects this merging and distortion more
> Sense of altered perspective is not however that distinct, it feels more like a face coming out of the poster
> Reducing the overall poster down and having this animated element larger would create this coming out effect which may be interesting

SHADOW IDEA

> This follows the idea of using shapes, interaction between people and the 'poster' and light
> Wanted to have shapes of paper interacting with each other in some form that could be photographed
> More physical representation of poster and creates dimensions and perspective to it
> How can I use the pieces of paper to create interaction between them?
> Instead of just layering shapes being held, what if the text was created by these pieces of paper, through shadows?

> Various ways of creating shadows and creating distorted text but all require placing them in specific positions and having help to create it
> It was easier for me to create a shadow texture that could be used and developed digitally, than to create something which would work perfectly when aligned with the right lighting and the help of others

> This sort of distorted shadow perspective works well as you can start to see how it would form into a refined clean cut piece
> Look at making a line of text of the word 'PLAY' and see how I can distort this to make lots of them onto a page for a background of a poster to then be digitally manipulated and coloured

TO DO

1 Create shadow idea quickly with lots of 'play'
> If this were chosen different images of shadows could be used for alterations to make it more interesting
2 Research on events posters and products
