Preternatural Evaluation

As the first brief I've ever done where I am designing for someone who is not in graphic design, this was a really important step for me to take. I learnt how to communicate about design and ideas to someone who doesn't have the same level of understanding as me. While this was also a collaboration, with both of us exchanging ideas, I did have to manoeuvre around what Rhianna wanted as the person who created and gave me the brief. I had to create mood boards and design layouts to help her understand what it is she wanted, and then throughout the process communicate how it was developing to make sure she was happy with the direction of the project. A difference in tastes and ideas meant consistent alterations were made throughout, which in a more usual brief for me would not be the case. This was frustrating at first, and made me feel like I was wasting time, especially in a very tight timeframe of 9 days. However I found that the different perspective of Rhianna proved really helpful, and led the designs in more interesting ways then I may have chosen to take. It forced me to develop things differently and as a result the designs push the boundaries of what I have ever done before. As the subject matter is also something I have never touched on this also proved to be interesting and new and led the design into a whole style for me. Having to complete this in 9 days also proved to me how much I can achieve design wise in such a short time frame. In previous years, a publication of this fortitude would have taken me around 3 weeks, whereas now that I've progressed with the process of research, ideas, development and refinement, this is easier and faster for me to do. Being forced to complete it so quickly for Rhianna's deadline also meant I had no other choose than to produce a high quality outcome quickly. I prioritised design development, quickly doing research and ideas, and ensured there were days of leniency to refine the final work and elevate it to a professional standard. Things I should remember from this brief for future briefs:

1. Trust the process of research, ideas, development and refining

2. Ensure there is a few days to refine and polish the project: There's no point spending time on a design and then finishing it off with low effort, this will waste all your hard work

3. Invite criticisms and ideas, this may develop your work in a new and interesting way

4. You can produce work quickly. When stuck creatively, look to your research to reignite ideas
