 More Joely Experiments

> Discussion with Joely about experiments:
- feels bleak and depressing compared to playful vibrant quality of other mia experiments, would not feel consistent in the article, unless used specifically for area of article where the tone is more depressing and sensitive
- also lacks a digital touch and texture that other experiments have had
- images could also be seen as just simple iphone pics, needs to be approached with a sense of abstract perspective or more manipulation in order to make them more interesting and editorial like other article designs
> Also similar aesthetic to images done with Joely's selfies, need to make sure there is a distinctive aesthetic and tone to each person who provides a lockdown story, to show the uniqueness of each tale and keep it personal to that person
> Depiction of other girl in images takes away the focus from Mia who's provided the story, does she have her own article?
> Does she have selfies in her lockdown environment or just pics at the park? Doesn't feel intimate, reflective or lockdown vibe if just at park
> Doesn't take selfies, but what if we put selfie functions and snapchat filters over the pictures to create this selfie aesthetic?

Developments from Discussion

> More interesting simple use of both digital and mundane photography
> Reflects tone in story of broken hearts and mundane lockdown life
> Uses digital imagery cohesive with rest of aesthetic and direction of overall project
> These could be used as a gallery function as done with Aria

Other Developments

- From snapchat filter/sefie programs layouts: placed TikTok over her sister's images
- Moody TikTok vibe, red LED lights very Gen Z
- Rather than a whole article this could be a photo series
- Very her generation to have transient images and deep messages that you clock in and out of quickly on social media
- Gallery of this series would be on main website page, treated as quick flick through, just like how that generation treats posting pictures and interacting with others pictures
- Very visual they don't go into detail

Mia Website Article Page Creation

> Interactive symbols needed to encourage user to go towards that area to se hidden images, as seen in Aria's article
> Thought about making it more reflective of this specific article's tone and aesthetic, anime and manga inspired cursor
> But this was not clear among the background and did not communicate 'interact here'
> Also more appropriate to use the same interactive cursor image on all website interaction points to create a clear visual system for the user to follow when navigating the different sections
> Additional cursor designs with clear anime style cursor was used for additional gifs throughout the article that I had planned to use from the start when deciding to use a GIF for the background
> Having both types of cursors may be overcomplicated and difficult for the viewer to follow and recognise however
> ask peer feedback

PEER FEEDBACK
- The middle ground between manga anime aesthetic and the digital/blog aesthetic
- Love how the anime speech bubbles feel almost like message bubbles at the same time, like a combination between the two ideas
- Transitions between all these elements with animations also feels very smooth, and is soft and sensitive as appropriate to the tone of the story
- So many ideas that work cohesively (tumblr, blog, digital, anime etc)
- Don't like the banana picture
- Love the balance between interaction, content and visuals, still and moving image
- The cursors could still be more obvious in encouraging interaction, beginning of website should have a pop up presenting the rules of navigation eg. these cursors mean you can hover over for hidden content!
- Having two different cursors doesn't feel overcomplicated, but the anime cursors needs to be more prominent and visible (either black or white)
- Spell check for one of the speech bubbles
- Can't read the vertical type (this is okay as it's there for adding to the aesthetic of manga rather than to be read)

CHANGES MADE REFLECTION
> Despite having really chaotic layout for a reason, I think to enable users to really navigate pages, each article should show 'scroll down here'
> While it's also a very visual story and abstract anonymous representation of peoples' experiences, as articles a beginning introduction could be useful and set the article tone
> Despite changes to anime cursor, it still needs to be less blurry and the text 'touch me' should be more legible and bigger

TO DO
> Main website aesthetic
> Include Ava's series
