It's Nice That - Humour in the Creative Industries
Min Heo
- random ideas fleshed into comics
- best ideas come from small seed of idea and zoning out and questioning things
- repetition and iteration of the same idea over and over until it becomes fully formed
- taking time to observe life until it forms a story
- what would I find funny on instagram?
- instagram has been very beneficial despite its cons and having to fit work to that eg. make work that works with shorter attention spans of viewers
- how do you balance between personal and work?
> always post once a week on instagram
Blink Industries - Charlie Perkins
- Been involved in lots of different areas within comedy to understand all perspectives and what she likes and doesn't
- Hug me I'm scared: doesn't come from expected comedy, fills the hole of what's needed in British comedy, which typically goes for ideas that worked and were successful and so are repeated
- it's distinctive and different, through comedy and aesthetic, keeps it original
- Doesn't conform to anything that's been seen, its take on the world is unique
- Working something which you know a specific group of people will love rather than lots will be entertained by is appealing
- light and darkness is needed in comedy, to reflect life from different angles, unearth things you wouldn't think of before
- Experience of comedy versus crafting of comedy: Taking comedy serious and committing to the joke/tone, labour of something into a work or piece shows to the audience
- With comedy you can get to the point quite quickly, can make dramatic moments more powerful, and can make you question
- Three forms of humour
1 Relief
2 Superiority (laughing at others misfortune)
3 Incongruity (surreal or absurd, challenging expectations)
