Produce a newspaper that presents the photography collection on
subverting commercial photography through the lens of expressionism. |
|
Background/Considerations |
|
Content Considerations The photography collection is based around abstract expressionism
through portraiture/figure; Emulating qualities seen within charcoal or oil
pairings where marks are draw out or smudged to emulate emotion or feeling. This
perspective is explored through the notion of commercial and product photography.
The portraits express the perfume or product and the two co-exist within a
commercial environment. This investigates trying to flip the standard of
commercialism into something more suggestive and abstract. Commercial
photography typically has a superficial tone, and research should be done
into this area, by looking at for example in flight magazines. This newspaper output should present this collection in a way that elevates
its message around giving people and objects human energy and a
connectedness. It’s aesthetic should also be minimal. There should be text
but a small, decorative amount to aid the photographs. The photographs must
be clear and prominent. The graphic designer has creative control over the
order and layout of these photographs, and to take out images which they feel
may be inconsistent. Changes and developments must be communicated with the
photographer as it is an outcome made for them. It should be no bigger than 6 by 8 inches and no more than 10 pages
long. No more than four images should be placed on a spread. Production costs
should be around £2 per copy. This includes the newspaper and additional
outputs. Around 500 copies are to be produced by the photographer. This means
the designs must be easily mass produced and formatted for specific newspaper
printing companies. Additional outputs such as an information card for the photographer and
a plastic wrap with decals should also be designed for production. Background Considerations Copies of this newspaper will be sent to major brands by the
photographer, including the likes Gucci, Channel, vogue, bricks, Metal
magazine and so on. The target audience is therefore possible connections and
clients for the photographer, and means the newspaper must be refined and
well designed. |
