- like idea of two books presenting different sides of new, alien mother earth 

- one designer is a man but feminine touch is still present in direction

- Aurelie designer made clothes based on idea of women exploring new planet, so interpretation of this was correct but not shared with Malon's shoot, which is more generally his designs 

- Can still produce this idea of a new alien female world with two sides

> Possibility for fashion sketches to be put in the publication, but this will change the aesthetic from planned sleek graphic to more zine feel 

> Interesting to see the designer creating alien style illustrations, reaffirms the direction of alien mother earth publication

> This will reflect a sense of futurism through a lens of colour as seen in the photos 



> Benski always very experimental approach, simplicity within each element (type, extra visual details), but brought together they create interesting compositions and interactions between each other
> Amount of text in this design direction is not reflective of what will be the case in this brief however and so adopting such an experimental style would be done in a more visual way with large typefaces alike to Preternatural  

> Find text from designers on subject and place at start of books for context?
> Find text on mother earth and alien articles? 


> This illustration is a much more abstract approach, feels more reflective of the photography than Benski's 
> Light stroke around each element really brings out its style, could take the colourful light strokes seen in the photographs and place them across the page repeated? 



> More digital block creation of collage combinations, in an almost digital collage style 
> Less soft, perhaps not reflective of soft colour gradient lighting in photography 
> Interesting use of motion and digital distortions through the use of gradients, could use this idea for presentations of the publication later on with animations for social media and website 
> Make the spreads come alive, the idea of mother exrth moving and shifting

> Interaction between colours from photos and 3D text with layer styles works really well

> Other publication can be darker, text more about 'you will acknowledge HER POWER' 
> Collage playful aesthetic with chopped up bits of images and drawn elements also successful in creating that experimental aesthetic 
> Background image right page could be manipulated more?? 

> They're so busy that they could even be divided into two separate spreads, with opposite pages taking a more pulled back direction just to let it breathe 
> Depends how photography wants the images to be presented, may be that she wants specific images more untouched

> Pursuit of more simple spread on right led to further experiments with cut outs of images 
> Images not yet edited, need to pick images and lay them out before playing with as will have to reedit them again after rhianna sends me edited versions 
> Colourful bright type = does it give off the right message? Does it feel futuristic and alien? Very fun and playful version 

> Problem with some of the images within the shoot is the tone is less bright and colourful, and more red and browns, which doesn't follow the general aesthetic I want to place in this publication 
> Manipulate these images colours? Leave them out? Probably need to include every garment for the designers, ask Rhianna for edits of them on colours 



> More brown images lend themselves to a more tribal spiritual feel with is reflected in style of type made here 
> Like the outlining of elements in bright colours

> Lots of images that are the same like the mirror distortion ones, but these could be used in an interesting way, reiterate sense of alien imagery





> Shapes and paint lines with stroke and outer glow works well in the creation of organic forms and the appearance of cells, which has a new life/new world connotation 
> Dimension between all elements between model, shapes and type

Identity EVALUATION

Alike to GAIA EXRTH, it was disappointing not being able to complete the brief within the timescale set out. I recognise that I like working a lot on passion projects and pushing them further and further, to the point that perhaps the goals I set are unrealistic or I spend too long on one level/area of the project. In this case this was a research brief and I set out to spend a lot of time doing research and testing ideas. I found this a more difficult brief to do within the covid landscape and felt less inspired, as I wanted to go out into the world and look at things, ask people, visit places and so on. This meant this project took a back seat and by the end of the year revisiting it so late on meant there was no time to fulfil the visions I had for the project. It's exciting however to have so many projects I'm interested in to be continuing after uni as it means I can keep the momentum up of designing and producing more ideas and more work.
