Brief

Design two futuristic fashion photography publications that showcase the photographers’ work on the fashion pieces of Marius Malon and Aurelie Fontan respectively.

Content Considerations

The photographer has produced a collection of images for the fashion designers Marius Malon and Aurelie Fontan, which looks through a futuristic scope of ‘what would we look like on another planet?’ Aurelia Fontan has produced her pieces with the idea of women being at the forefront of new planet exploration, whilst Marius Malon has provided futuristic feeling garments to the photographer to simply shoot. A strong narrative to bring these together should be created. 

 

These publications should be designed cohesively as a collection and be given an overarching alien planet name that feels futuristic and unique. They should present a dual narrative of finding new life beyond earth. Each publication presents the communications between humans on earth with those on these two different alien planets. Both publications should be designed to elevate each series of photos in their own unique directions, but they should also be connected through the story and visual language. The aesthetic approach should look at using experimentation, colour and futuristic detail.  

 

Research should be done into relevant publication design and futuristic graphics to help inform your design direction and process. 

 

This is a collaboration between the photographer and graphic designer, but the designer must fulfil the needs and requirements from the photographer, as the outcomes are being designed to showcase their work.

 

Background Considerations

The target audience are adults ranging anywhere from 20-60 years old who are interested editorial design, design publications, fashion, photography and futurism. It should also appeal to cultural and design media outlets, such as Hunger Magazine and iD.

Identity EVALUATION

Alike to GAIA EXRTH, it was disappointing not being able to complete the brief within the timescale set out. I recognise that I like working a lot on passion projects and pushing them further and further, to the point that perhaps the goals I set are unrealistic or I spend too long on one level/area of the project. In this case this was a research brief and I set out to spend a lot of time doing research and testing ideas. I found this a more difficult brief to do within the covid landscape and felt less inspired, as I wanted to go out into the world and look at things, ask people, visit places and so on. This meant this project took a back seat and by the end of the year revisiting it so late on meant there was no time to fulfil the visions I had for the project. It's exciting however to have so many projects I'm interested in to be continuing after uni as it means I can keep the momentum up of designing and producing more ideas and more work.
