Evaluation

Overall the website design is very successful in presenting my practice. It reflects my aesthetic without being too complicated and showcases my projects clearly and in an interesting flowing way, just as the sites I was inspired by through my research. As a result, my work looks professional and my practice feels developed, enough for me to feel confident in making my presence as a designer more known. To do this I need to keep the momentum which I have had throughout this year, including in the talks and workshops I've been attended, which have been really helpful in helping me see if there are any areas outside of my realm of knowledge I could be interested in. The talks have also been really helpful for having any worries about the future and how to get into industry quelled, and to see that my thoughts are shared by a lot of people in design, such as imposter syndrome. Alongside making more of an effort to engage with talks and other areas, investing in the Creative Review, Stacked Magazine and following more designers on social media has really widened my breadth of understanding on so many areas: design, fashion, culture, make up, 3D art and so on. This is important for me to keep doing in order to make myself more appealing to employers that I'm interested in working for in the future. I do feel I could have set aside some time this year to write more think pieces or share work I enjoy on my Instagram. Both of these would create more traction for my practice. For the former however I felt I didn't have enough time to do this, although I recognise now that they don't need to be super extensive articulate pieces, but instead could be visual questions and ideas. For the latter I struggle with consistent posting as I don't enjoy social media on a personal level, but I think it's important to improve as all of my favourite photography collaborations came through Instagram and people seeing my work on there. I would also like to engage with more theoretical research to inform my practice, as I have a great interest in people, sociology, philosophy and so on. Reading around these topics through both research and design scopes may inspire further projects in the future. In terms of professional development, the collaborations I've done have been very important in creating creative connections that I'll still have outside of university. I want to see myself doing more of these and applying for paid jobs in such areas such as publication design. I could have spent some time looking for internships and applying to these as well, but felt that doing that after my degree would be more beneficial long term, particularly as this following year is more exploratory than getting straight into industry.
