EX2RTH Cover + Presentation Development

 COVER DEVELOPMENT 

> Covers of both publications need to be cohesive together, but distinctive between their two different tones and colours 

> Main colour tones within second publication = purple and pinks = This should be main colour of cover, and works well with the bright green as the first publication's main colour 

> Adding in cracked earth texture instead of water to reflect the earthy images inside hasn't worked 

> Different levels of light and opacity within water texture image is what works well overlaid on photos, whereas this hasn't translated in the same way with the dirt image 

> Image on publication one also more distorted, tried to replicate a sense of this by duplicating this image and layering it above, makes it feel more alien 

> Use of water texture works better, but water texture that is more earth like and condensed waves rather than soft water light forms to reflect the different tone 

> Layer styles on top of each other has produced this annoying yellow pigmentation in images, which cannot be removed by colour tools in photoshop (only registers as her pink skin tones beneath)

> For a submission for Rhianna from far away on a mock up however this should not be a problem, but may change it closer to deadline 


> Content page writing

GAIA EX2RTH Provides Us With Teachings On Power. She Gives Us The Strength In Ourselves and To Forge New Paths. This Volume Documents The Natives, Their Spirit & Lessons. 


PRESENTATION 

> Using water forms and colour layer styles to create alien like magical background imagery to elevate publication mock ups 

> This may be more reflective of first publication rather than second, and with development of second publication later on this may be altered to be more cohesive between both tones and aesthetics 

> Colour alterations between each presentation to reflect the correct theme colours of each publication 



COVER DEVELOPMENT 2

> Rhianna changes wanted on the cover, not wanting the double eyes of the image, found it creepy 
> Wanted to create this alien aesthetic in a different way 
> Playing around with different layering styles and only using the water texture effects from the first cover to create background texture 
> I wanted to keep this texture made as it feels almost digital in its form, but is this reflective of a super organic, earthy, tribal photography series? May need to be changed after submission

> This version generally is more interesting and a more powerful piece of cover imagery, particularly with the white pupils and how the white light creates a sense of power, a force between her faces
> Collision between the real realm and distorted mirrored one? Reflective of humans bonding with the earth and force of GAIA? 
> Strongly presents a sense of connection 




REFLECTION
> Overall end design of second publication matches the other publication really well, but it doesn't accurately reflect the tones and aesthetic of the images inside, which I think now is more important than the outside cohesion of the collection 
> This second publication should feel earthy, dark, powerful and ominous, whereas this feels similar to the first with a tone of magical, beautiful and alien like 
> This will take more work to refine, and will become clearer once the development of the second publication is underway and the first is refined as well

 - Aria article     > background     > animations + interactions - main page layout development  - Mia article  ARIA ARTICLE  > Too many elements moving together  > Spent time cutting out the messages with the background and same with pink aria images though, so should use these with additional interactive elements  > Thought about the hover interaction used on Ell's page  > Make pink aria pictures appear if you hover over another image or symbol? eg. finger up pixel cursor art used in aria collage experiments  > Makes more sense to have the messages as hover elements, as the pink aria images create an important visual and if they were not present most of the time until the user interacted with them this would reduce the level of interest in the overall imagery  > Typing message symbol can be used for hover element instead for the story  > This way the user is following the story b...

Identity EVALUATION

Alike to GAIA EXRTH, it was disappointing not being able to complete the brief within the timescale set out. I recognise that I like working a lot on passion projects and pushing them further and further, to the point that perhaps the goals I set are unrealistic or I spend too long on one level/area of the project. In this case this was a research brief and I set out to spend a lot of time doing research and testing ideas. I found this a more difficult brief to do within the covid landscape and felt less inspired, as I wanted to go out into the world and look at things, ask people, visit places and so on. This meant this project took a back seat and by the end of the year revisiting it so late on meant there was no time to fulfil the visions I had for the project. It's exciting however to have so many projects I'm interested in to be continuing after uni as it means I can keep the momentum up of designing and producing more ideas and more work.
